Hello Section People,
This "Mother Goose" training program is a great opportunity to learn and implement this program in your Library. If you are interested and have questions find Mary Rhoads or Sue Knesel at WLA and they will help you out. But here is the email about the workshop.
Thanks

>Mother Goose Programs would like to present a one-day workshop that
>would "piggyback" onto next year's April conference in Little Rock. At
>this point we are applying for a conference grant from the National
>Science Foundation to fund the training, hotel/meeting expenses and
>materials expenses. Every state received a copy of the "Mother Goose
>Big Idea" book from Patty Langley at last year's CSLP annual meeting.
>
>The workshop would take place immediately following the
>already-scheduled conference. Participants would be required to spend
>one more night at the same hotel in Little Rock (at our expense, along
>with all meals during that time). Participants could then leave the
>following afternoon. We haven't ironed all the details out yet, but
>that's the time frame. As soon as we have the definite times, we'll let
>everyone know.
>
>We will train participants in a math and science companion guide to the
>2008 summer reading program guide. Each participant would receive the
>companion guide plus the math and science materials included. The
>activities outlined in the manual are hands-on and include the use of
>picture books. In addition to this, each state would receive 100 copies
>of the manual and a few sets of the materials (that number is yet to be
>determined and depends on the budget).
>
>In return, the participants would need to go back to their states and
>train children's librarians prior to the beginning of the summer reading
>program, using the manuals and materials. Because there's not much time
>between April and the beginning of the summer programs, the date would
>have to be scheduled in advance.
>
>In effect, this is a train-the-trainers opportunity for every state who
>wishes to participate.
>
>At this moment we need to know:
>
>* how many states would like to participate. There is no cost to the
>states. The only commitment from the states is scheduling that training
>workshop prior to the 2008 summer programs, and then of course using
>the manual and materials in summer programs to complement the existing
>guide and its activities.
>
>* how many participants from each state would be present at the April
>2008 conference in Little Rock, so that we can budget for materials,
>meeting space and meals.
>
>Because we're sending the proposal to NSF in a few days, we'll need to
>know the number of states and participants no later than August 2 (next
>Thursday). We don't need letters of commitment just an idea of states
>that are interested and how many pariticpants from each state will
>participate in this training. We do not need specific names.
>
>Sorry for the quick turn around.
