Good Afternoon,

I am alarmed by the lack of orders coming in--we're down
more than 1,000 orders from where we were last year at this
time.  A year ago, 150+ orders were coming in each day. 
Yesterday, only 32 orders were placed.  

Highsmith is getting quite worried. Highsmith bases the
amount of product they order by the number of early orders
received by December 1.  If for some reason people are
planning to order later rather than sooner, we're afraid
we'll really be short on quantities and people will be
extremely upset.  

What is the scuttlebutt?  Do people not like this theme? 
Are people scared off by the bendables thing?  Is it because
Thanksgiving came early or what?  Highsmith really bent over
backwards to offer some new things this year--like the
"California" bags, the deluxe reading records, etc.--and
they are NOT selling.  They are big turkeys so far.

The Vendor RFP for 2009/2010 goes out in mid December.  If
our sales don't pick up, I'm afraid we're going to have a
difficult time getting Highsmith or anyone else to submit
bids.

So, I beg you, please strongly encourage your libraries to
place their orders THIS WEEK!  And, if you have any thoughts
on why orders are so slow this year, I'd really truly like
to hear them.

Order early and order often!
