Librarians,

As an old-timer, a retired Wyoming librarian, allow me to respectfully take
exception to one of Maggie Farrell's statements. "...Wyoming is fortunate to
have broad support in the legislature for our libraries..." "Fortunate" be
d____d! We worked darned hard to EARN it! Starting w/ the very first
legislative reception conceived and organized by Susan Simpson in the
mid-1980's. It was held in the staff lunch room at the State Library, and was
attended by 8 or 9 legislators. Jerry K. will verify what I have said -
except maybe the number of legislators who attended.

The results of 20+ years of hard work by the entire Wyoming library community
cannot be attributed to simply good fortune.

Pardon me if I shed a tear for Barbara Fraley, Nora Van Burgh, and Bess
Sheller. And let me acknowledge some of the other retired librarians who
contributed to our good fortune: Debbie Iverson, Sandra Donovan, Nancy
Effinger, Lynnette Anderson, Charlene Paben, Grace Gasson, Linn Rounds, Wayne
Johnson, Keith Cottam. And some others who have moved out of Wyoming: Ed
Byers, Alice Meister, Mary Sue Streeper, Jerry Frobom, Henry Yaple, Duncan
McCoy.

Being retired has its advantages - a person can be cranky and everyone writes
it off to age. Well, this fossil wants people to know WHY they are so
fortunate. Your predecessors had vision, too, and worked hard to make it
happen.

Thank you for carrying on the tradition.

Helen Higby
