Happy New Year to WLA members from rainy Philadelphia.

Why am I and thousands of librarians in Philly? It's time for the American Library Association's Midwinter conference.
When I got up this morning I was more than morning-dazed when I looked out the 17th floor window. Am in Seattle...no, that was ALA's location last January? There's the Reading Terminal market entrance. That's right...I'm in Philadelphia.

Oops, I'm sending an email not blogging.

As your WLA president I will represent Wyoming at the Chapter Council meetings while here. In ALA language, WLA and all states' library associations are chapters.

Hey, let's get your calendars and planner updated with 2008 WLA events. While Laura Grott, our wonderful Executive Secretary is preparing the next WLA Newsletter, here are some important 2008 WLA events.

NOTE: If you haven't renewed your WLA membership, please consider doing that ASAP. Less than half of last year's total membership have done so. We need you and your support. Those of you who have renewed already, THANK YOU. This will also help us as we prepare this year's budget. AND please don't forget to indicate YOUR PARTICIPATION interests in WLA for committee assignments and the like. Your WLA VPs and Presidents use these to fill committee assignments and I still need people.

One OTHER NOTE: you are welcome to lobby me for assignments to certain committees. I want more people involved and I'm paying attention to those who are newer and less experienced because we need you and want you to gain the necessary experience to become the future leaders of WLA and library services throughout the state. Are you ready to do so?

FIRST Date:
On February 20, we will again have the WLA Legislative Reception in the early evening at the Plains Hotel in Cheyenne.

Our Co-Chairs for the event this year are Dail Barbour and Paul Heimer, both members of the WLA Legislative Committee. There is a block of rooms set aside at the Plains Hotel for Wed. & Thur., Feb 19 & 20 @ $70/night. It's a small block but the rooms will be held until January 29. The Plains Hotel is fully booked that week. Those making reservations should specify the WLA Library Association block.

The NEXT dates for you are April 18 - 19, in Casper at the Ramkota Inn.

This is the WLA annual spring get-together which allows WLA sections, committees, interest groups another opportunity to F2F (meet face to face) outside the annual conference. Mary Rhoads at Johnson County PL is the chair of the planning group for this meeting. You will hear more about that in the Newsletter.

LASTLY, the dates for the Annual meeting are October 1 - 4 in Casper, at the Parkway Plaza.

Cynthia Twing, your WLA VP has already started work with this year's Program Council and has proposed a theme and keynote speaker. You will have to wait on those until Program Council approves them at the meeting in Cheyenne next month.

If you need a reminder check the Wyoming Libraries Planning Calendar hosted by the Wyoming State Library.

I've been too quiet with WLA membership. I therefore resolve to communicate more with you. You know where your delete key is but where do you stand with your WLA membership?

Until the next time,

Brian Greene, your WLA prez
