Cataloging Using the OCLC Connexion Client Interface

Description: 
This three-day online course will introduce library staff to OCLC's
client interface to the Connexion service and demonstrate how to use it
efficiently. Focus will be on using the software for new and copy
cataloging and will include how to:

	*Apply known search techniques to the new interface. 
	*Edit existing records to better suit the needs of your library.

	*Create new records from scratch or from existing records. 
	*Export records for use in your own local system. 
	*Work offline using the software's batch capabilities. 
	*Create labels using the built-in label program. 

Who Should Attend:
Library personnel wishing to gain a better understanding of the
capabilities of the Connexion client interface and how it can help
streamline their workflow should attend. 

Note: This workshop no longer includes coverage of customization options
or macros. These topics are contained in the the BCR workshop,
Customizing the OCLC Connexion Client Software (WebLive or
classroom-based).

Prerequisites:
The BCR workshop, Searching OCLC WorldCat Using the Connexion Service,
or equivalent experience. A general familiarity with cataloging
processes and terms is assumed. 

Dates and Times:
March 11-13, 2008 (10 a.m.-12 noon)
This class is taught on three consecutive days. Students need to attend
all sessions to get the most out of the workshop.

Fees:
BCR members - $125
Nonmembers - $175

Voucher: 1 BCR training voucher

The presentation can be viewed and heard by a group of people at a
single computer. If this is the case, please register only one attendee
who will log in on behalf of the group (send a list of names for other
participants).

Alternatively, the presentation can be viewed and heard by multiple
people from the same institution at separate workstations. If this is
the case, please register each individual attendee who needs to log in
to the class.

NOTE: Regardless of whether you attend as an individual or as a group,
the price for the online workshop is $125 for BCR members and $175 for
nonmembers for each person who views the session.

How to Get Started:
The workshop is accessed from your own or your library's computer using
a Web browser. Details will be included in your confirmation letter
after registration.

BCR will provide a microphone to you free of charge to use during
WebLive workshops if you don't already have one. Please indicate this on
your registration form (comments box), and we will ship it to your
attention.

Mimimum requirements: Computer (minimum of 128 MB of RAM, although 256
MB is recommended); Internet Explorer 5.5 Web browser, Java enabled;
speakers; and Internet access of 56k or above. A microphone connected to
the computer is optional for the audio, which also is available by a
long-distance phone bridge (not a toll-free number).
