April 13 (10-11:30 am)
The Best from the Web (College of DuPage - Soaring to Excellence)

Love it or hate it, the Internet is often a librarian's best friend *
assisting us in serving our patrons and many times helping us do our
jobs better. However, as the World Wide Web continues to grow at an
exponential rate (blogs and wikis and RSS feeds * oh my!), many of us
feel overwhelmed. Have you ever wished that everything could be simpler?
Do you sometimes long for a list of web sites that would get you
through the most challenging of workdays? If you answered yes to either
of these questions, then The Best From the Web is for you. Kelly Watson
and a panel of experts have compiled a toolkit of the best the web has
to offer library workers. Learn about web resources that will assist you
in your everyday job, whether you work at a public desk or behind the
scenes in tech services.

OCLC has even more options to help your staff. Join us for a look at
OCLC's revamped WorldCat Cataloging Partners service, the merger of OCLC
PromptCat and Cataloging Partners. This one-hour session will give you
an overview of the options available with WorldCat Cataloging Partners
and answer your questions about the service.

TechAtlas for the Rural Library (WebJunction - Rural Library
Sustainability)

Come learn about this free, online technology planning tool for
libraries provided by WebJunction. The best part about TechAtlas is that
the tools can be used separately so that you can customize it around the
needs of your library. You'll get a brief overview and tour of TechAtlas
tools and hear how rural and small libraries around the country are
using these tools to help manage technology. Moderated by Brenda Hough,
Technology Coordinator, Northeast Kansas Library System (NEKLS), with
special guest Kendra Morgan, WebJunction's TechAtlas Outreach
Specialist.

ALA's Committee on Education (COE); John Budd, president of the
Association for Library and Information Science Education (ALISE); Jan

Streamline Your Workflow with OCLC WorldCat Selection (BCR Free Friday
Forum)

To help improve efficiency in the materials selection process, OCLC
recently introduced WorldCat Selection, to bring together in one online
interface notification items from multiple vendors. WorldCat records for
selected titles can then be downloaded into your integrated library
system. This new service results from OCLC's collaboration with Cornell
University Library staff and is based on the Integrated Tool for
Selection and Ordering at Cornell University Library (ITSO CUL).

session
