August 7 (9 - 10 am)
Free your content! RSS for Libraries (SirsiDynix Institute)
Paul Pival and Meredith Farkas will describe what RSS is and how to use it in a variety of ways in libraries: to make it easier for users to find out about your collections and programs, to push subject-related content to patrons, and to publish dynamic content on a variety of pages. There are many tools that make generating RSS feeds, subscribing to RSS feeds, displaying RSS feeds and mixing RSS feeds an incredibly simply proposition for those with little technical knowledge. In addition, they will show you how to use RSS to easily keep up with the topics you are interested in without having to visit multiple websites each day.

Creating a 2.0 Library (SirsiDynix Institute)
Is your website the same as it was when it was first created in 1997? Do your fiction and nonfiction stacks resemble a warehouse as much as a library? Do customers have an experience at your library that entails more than just picking up stuff? Library customers are used to getting an enhanced user-experience from other websites and retailers. Learn how to create services that embrace the Library 2.0 concept and encourage customer feedback and participation. Discover a digital environment that doesn't just list the library hours, but functions as a branch location. Bring your stacks to life by reorganizing and working with your digital branch and customers.
