BCR, the SirsiDynix Institute, and WebJunction will be webcasting the
following FREE programs during the month of January:


January 5 (10-11 am or 2-3 pm)
Making Your Bookmarks Yummy with del.icio.us (Michael Sauers)

Del.icio.us is a social bookmarking service. Not only does it let you
easily store and organize your bookmarks online, making them easily
accessible from any Web-enabled device, but it also allows you to share
your resources with your patrons. This one-hour session will introduce
you to del.icio.us and show you how to get an account, how to add your
own bookmarks and how to make them available to your patrons. It will
also show you the benefits of del.icio.us, and why it a far superior
vehicle for sharing your resources over just posting a list of links on
a static Web page.

January 9 (9-10 am)
Learning 2.0 : Make "play" your New Year's resolution (Helene Blowers)

As the Nationwide insurance commercials taunt "life comes at you fast",
it's time for librarians to jump into the knowledge pool of Web 2.0
technologies and discover how these tools are changing the way many
library users communicate, collaborate and receive information. Helene
Blowers, Technology Director for the Public Library of Charlotte and
Mecklenburg County shares insights and best practices around the
creation of Learning 2.0, an online self-discovery program designed to
encourage staff to explore new technologies (blogs, wikis, podcasts
etc.) and reward them for "play."

Flickr 101 (Michael Sauers)

Flickr bills itself as the best way to "store, sort, search and share
your photos online." This one-hour session walks you through what you
can do with the service and will give you plenty of ideas on how you can
use Flickr to promote your library. This session also will use Flickr to
introduce you to two of the hottest

January 24 (11:30- 12:30 pm)
Spanish Language Outreach: El Día de los Niños/El Día de los Libros

El Día de los Niños/El Día de los Libros (Children's Day/Book Day):
Programming and Outreach Ideas with special guests, Ruth Rose Hennessey
(Corvallis-Benton County Public Library, OR) and Melanie Tucker (Hunter
Library, West Valley City, UT).  Both Utah and Oregon have won awards
for their very successful programs celebrating this day, a celebration
of children, families, and reading held annually on April 30.

An Introduction to Social Software (Michael Sauers)

Social software is one of the hottest concepts on the Internet today.
This one-hour presentation will introduce you to its components and show
you examples of many of the most popular Web sites in this area. Learn
about Flickr, del.icio.us and YouTube, just to name a few. No prior
experience with any of these services is necessary to attend this
session.

Rural Library Sustainability: Wild about Wireless. 

Are you thinking about providing wireless access for your patrons? What
are the technical requirements? What are the security considerations?
Hear from rural libraries that have successfully implemented wireless

Coordinator, Northeast Kansas Library System (NEKLS).
